Our Call For Presenters (CFP) for our 2025 event is now open, and will be accepting submissions through the end of March. Whether you’re an experienced speaker or looking to present for the first time, we’d love to hear from you and have you share your expertise with the Western New York technology community!

There are four distinct tracks accepting submissions, as outlined below:

General – This is the track for typical technical or security-related talks. Sessions are fifty minutes long, including Q&A at the end. If your talk doesn’t fit in any of the other categories it should go in General.

Lightning Talk – These are shorter talks on technical or security topics. Twenty minutes, including Q&A. If you’re interested in presenting on a niche or specific topic, or if you’re a first-time speaker getting your feet wet, this might be a good fit for your submission.

Hacking is Art – This track is for people working at the intersection of technology and art, making cool stuff with free, open source, or repurposed resources. Past topics have included 3d printing, open source graphics software, and using technology to aid in academic research. Sessions are fifty minutes long, including Q&A at the end.

Introsec – We get a lot of attendees who are new to the field or considering making a career change, and they could use some instruction in the fundamentals. If you have a talk on how to get started in CTFs, or how to build a home lab, or how to get started with learning cloud security, this would be the place to put it. Sessions are fifty minutes long, including Q&A at the end.

So there you have it — we’re looking for talks from a variety of speakers, aimed at a variety of audiences. We want to hear what you have to say, and hope that you submit something to present in June.

It’s that time of year again! We’re going to be holding the next BSides Buffalo event on June 7, 2025 and we’ve updated our sponsorship packet – you can download a copy at the link at the bottom of this post.

A few things that are coming in 2025:

• Last year, in order to drive more traffic to the Gold Sponsor tables, we issued “stamp cards” to all attendees – collecting all the stamps would enter the attendee into a prize raffle at the end of the day. This was very successful, with our return sponsors all reporting much higher engagement than in the past, and we’ll be doing it again.
• In addition to the Gold Sponsor tables, we’ll also have space set aside for local technology non-profit groups so they can introduce themselves to attendees and make those vital connections that strengthen our local tech community.
• Once again, we’ll have two tracks of speakers, one of which is a cybersecurity fundamentals track called “Introsec” with valuable information aimed at students, career switchers, and other people new to the field. The other is the more advanced technical content that experienced security practitioners and BSides attendees would expect.
• As always, our friends from TOOOL Rochester will be running a lockpicking clinic all day, and we’ll be bringing back the Capture The Flag contest and the soldering workshop.
• We’re making a concentrated effort to reach out to the cybersecurity students at colleges and universities in the area, issuing free tickets in exchange for their resumes, which we will distribute to the sponsors. This is an excellent chance for the students to network and make connections, and for the sponsors to meet the next generation of Western New York cyber talent.

Last year, we sold out of our full allotment of 250 tickets; this year, we’re expecting to sell 300. This is the largest information security event in the Buffalo/Niagara region, and a unique opportunity for our sponsors to reach a population of analysts, engineers, and architects who make the technical decisions for their organizations.
